VDA provides third-party inspection services and/or “witness” testing of mandated periodic or annual inspections, as state/local law requires.

Upcoming 2027 single plunger brake code ( NYC only):

Based on the 2014 NYC adapted building code, retroactive requirements, elevators with single plunger brakes shall either be modified to provide a dual brake, an unintended movement protection system be installed (rope gripper) or the replacement of the main machine. If an elevator is between the age of eighteen (18) to twenty (20) years old, it would be our recommendation to modernize, replacing the controller and all associated components prior to 2027.  Expect long lead times and upcoming demand for elevator modernizations that do not comply with the 2027 code. Below, please refer to the excerpt from the code:  

ASME A17.3-2002, Appendix K, Chapter K3, Section 3.8.4.1 Single plunger brakes. (a) All existing traction elevators with single plunger brakes must comply with either of the following by January 1, 2027: (1) Alteration of single plunger assemblies to dual-plunger type, or (2) Compliance with Unintended Car movement Protection as specified by Section 2.19.1 of ASME A17.1.

Maintenance Management encompasses a wide range of VDA services that help you manage your equipment’s condition and life cycle. VDA’s Standard and Comprehensive Evaluations provide information about the quality of maintenance as it relates to contract fulfillment and potential equipment upgrades and/or modernization. Our Due Diligence evaluation is typically provided when a building is being bought or sold; and our Feasibility Study can be done in conjunction with equipment evaluations to help determine a larger project’s investment strategy. 

VDA’s consultants are experts in vertical transportation equipment modernization and can help you efficiently navigate the entire modernization process. Modernization services can include feasibility studies, design development, specification, RFP prep, issuance and bid analysis, shop drawing review and approvals to final deployment. VDA’s consultants can work with you to ensure your new equipment is state-of-the-art while meeting your short- and long-term financial goals..
